Climate Activists Vandalize Two Random Jets After Failing to Find Taylor Swift’s Plane

Environmental activists continue their relentless campaigns. On Wednesday, ‘Just Stop Oil’ protesters, who had previously painted the UNESCO World Heritage site Stonehenge orange, targeted private jets in their latest protest against fossil fuel use.

Jennifer Kowalski, 28, and Cole Macdonald, 22, from the British environmental group, trespassed into the private jet section of London’s Stansted Airport early Thursday morning. Failing to find Taylor Swift’s plane, which had landed in London for her Wembley concert, the activists randomly painted two jets orange.

Taylor Swift was scheduled to perform at Wembley Stadium on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Her private jet has been criticized for its significant carbon emissions, allegedly producing 1,184 times the average person’s annual emissions.

Macdonald stated, “We live in two worlds: one where billionaires live in luxury and can fly in private jets, and another where countless people are subjected to unlivable conditions. Meanwhile, this system that allows extreme wealth accumulation by a few at the expense of everyone else is destroying the conditions necessary to support human life in a rapidly worsening, relentless ‘cruel summer.’ Billionaires are not untouchable; climate breakdown will affect us all.”

On Wednesday, Just Stop Oil activists Niamh Lynch, 21, and Rajan Naidu, 73, had also “decorated” Stonehenge with orange powder paint. The protest aimed to pressure the next UK government to commit legally to phasing out fossil fuels by 2030.

Images of the protest were shared on the group’s social media accounts, claiming the use of “orange corn flour” that would “wash away with the next rain.” English Heritage called the incident “deeply regrettable” and instructed its curators to assess the damage.

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak condemned the act as “a shameful act of vandalism against one of the oldest and most important monuments in the UK and the world,” while Labour Party leader Sir Keir Starmer described the damage to Stonehenge as “deeply offensive.” Starmer added, “Just Stop Oil is pathetic. Those responsible must face the full force of the law.”

Just Stop Oil warned of a “summer of resistance” if the government fails to take meaningful action. The group stated, “While governments allow oil companies to destroy our communities, individual actions achieve very little. That’s why Just Stop Oil is demanding the next government sign a legally binding agreement to phase out fossil fuels by 2030.” They added, “Failure to defend the people they represent will result in Just Stop Oil supporters, alongside citizens from Austria, Canada, Norway, the Netherlands, and Switzerland, joining in resistance this summer if their governments do not take meaningful action.”
