A New Symbol of Art at İGA Istanbul Airport

İGA Istanbul Airport has hosted yet another project that brings culture and art together with passengers. The giant sculpture, realised as part of the İGA ART Art Projects Competition, was presented to art lovers with an official ceremony.

Anatolia’s Cultural Layers Interpreted Through Modern Art

The artwork, bearing the signature of artist Hayri Karay, reinterprets Anatolia’s cultural diversity and historical layers through a modern composition of light and shadow.

Rejecting the concept of a “fixed form,” the sculpture offers viewers a different experience with each glance through the idea of constant movement and transformation. With mirrored surfaces and plays of light, the artwork transforms into a living structure that reflects the dynamism of the terminal.

Strong Attendance at the Opening

The unveiling ceremony was attended by Selahattin Bilgen, artist Hayri Karay, and many figures from the art world.

Speaking at the ceremony, Bilgen emphasised that the artwork is a new symbol at the intersection of aviation and art, not only with its physical scale but also with the meaning it carries.

“Bringing Art to the Heart of the Journey”

Speaking at the opening, Selahattin Bilgen stated the following regarding the importance of the project:

Bilgen noted that, as İGA Istanbul Airport, they continue to push boundaries with art projects, and stated that this work offers passengers not only a visual but also an experiential art journey.

“The Artwork is Constantly Reconstructed”

Artist Hayri Karay, speaking about the philosophy of the sculpture, emphasised that the work is a process that continuously changes and gains new meaning together with the viewer. Karay stated that the piece is not limited to a single meaning and is open to different interpretations depending on the viewer’s perspective.

The Meeting of a Global Brand and Art

As a global aviation hub, İGA Istanbul Airport is strengthening its claim of being not only a transportation centre but also a space for cultural interaction with this project.

According to experts, such large-scale art investments increase the brand value of airports while also enriching the passenger experience. This kinetic sculpture, located at the heart of the terminal, stands out as a new symbol conveying Istanbul’s cultural identity to international passengers.
