China Seizes Probe Left by U.S. in the South China Sea

China has seized an underwater probe left by a U.S. military aircraft in the South China Sea, according to an announcement made Wednesday by Yuyuan Tantian, a social media account associated with China’s state broadcaster CCTV. Yuyuan Tantian noted that U.S. military aircraft regularly drop “unidentified objects” while flying in the region.

The video shared by the account shows Chinese coast guard teams capturing and inspecting the probe. Experts suggest that the seized device could be used by China to detect submarine signals and block signals from underwater submarines.

Tensions frequently arise between China and the U.S. in the South China Sea, with ongoing military activities in the area.
