Porto Alegre Airport Reopens After 5-Month Closure
Porto Alegre’s Salgado Filho Airport resumed commercial flights on Monday, October 21, after being closed for more than five months due to severe flooding in Rio Grande do Sul.
First Commercial Flight: Azul Airlines’ Successful Landing
The first commercial flight to land at Salgado Filho Airport was an Azul Airlines Airbus A320, carrying 180 passengers. Flight 2603 departed from Campinas (SP) and touched down at 8:10 a.m., marking the long-awaited return of air traffic.

Airport Repairs and Safety Measures
The airport underwent extensive repairs to its runways and aprons, which were damaged by the flooding. Before reopening, management ensured that all safety standards were met and passenger comfort was prioritized. Azul and Gol Airlines operated flights on the first day, with a Gol aircraft landing at 8:45 a.m.
