HondaJet Elite II Became the First Light Business Jet to Receive Emergency Automatic Landing Certification
HondaJet Elite II became the first twin-engine light business jet certified with the FAA-approved Emergency Autoland system. A new era in safety for business aviation.
Honda Aircraft Company announced that the HondaJet Elite II is the first production twin-engine light business jet certified with the Emergency Autoland (EAL) system. The certification granted by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is considered a significant milestone in the business aviation segment.
A NEW ERA OF SAFETY IN THE SECTOR
According to a statement from Honda Aircraft Company, the Emergency Autoland feature had long been awaited especially by HondaJet Elite II owners and operators in the United States. The company reported that it continues certification work with relevant regulatory authorities so that the system can also be used in other markets.
Honda Aircraft Company President and CEO Hideto Yamasaki made the following statement on the matter:
“Adding the Emergency Autoland feature to the HondaJet Elite II is an indication of our commitment to delivering new value to our customers. I am proud that our team has successfully introduced this system, providing HondaJet Elite II customers with greater peace of mind on every flight.”
HOW DOES EMERGENCY AUTOLAND WORK?
The Emergency Autoland System (EAL) was developed to enable the aircraft to land fully autonomously in situations where the pilot is incapacitated or unresponsive.
The system can be activated:
- By manually pressing a button
- Or automatically via monitoring systems that detect pilot unresponsiveness.
Following activation, EAL:
- Sends an automatic emergency code
- Establishes radio communication with air traffic control
- Selects the most suitable airport by analysing weather conditions, terrain, fuel status, and runway lengths
- Manages the approach, landing, and braking processes and brings the aircraft to a complete stop on the runway
TECHNOLOGICAL INFRASTRUCTURE WAS ALREADY IN PLACE
In October 2024, the HondaJet Elite II had become the first twin-engine light business jet equipped with an automatic throttle (automatic power control) system. This technology is considered the fundamental infrastructure enabling the implementation of the Emergency Autoland system.
The test flights required for EAL certification were completed in October 2025, paving the way for the FAA approval process.
