It has been claimed that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in a joint US–Israel operation against Iran. Missile strikes, air bases and the Strait of Hormuz are on the global agenda.
It has been alleged that the United States and Israel launched a comprehensive military operation against Iran, during which Iran’s religious leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed and strategic targets were struck. Tensions in the region have reached their peak following the attacks.
Critical Targets Hit in Iran
According to reports reflected in Iranian media, an Iranian aircraft was destroyed on the ground at an airport in Bushehr. During the same period, Tehran’s Mehrabad Airport was also reported to have been targeted in the attacks.
Mehr News Agency published photographs showing grey smoke rising around the airport and described the attack as an “operation carried out by American-Zionist terrorists against the west of the capital.”
Claim of Khamenei’s Death
According to the allegations, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei lost his life in an attack carried out on his compound in central Tehran.
According to reports in international media outlets, it was claimed that the operation was carried out following “months of planning” and that Khamenei’s convoy route was tracked by hacking traffic cameras.
What Weapons Were Used in the Operation?
It was reported that in the operations that began on Saturday, US–Israeli forces launched Tomahawk missiles from warships in the Persian Gulf and carried out air strikes with fifth-generation fighter jets.
It was stated that F-22 Raptor and F-35 Lightning II aircraft were particularly used in the operation.
Targets reportedly included Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps command centres, missile facilities, air defence systems and leadership compounds.
Retaliation from Iran: Missile and UAV Attacks
Iran responded to the attacks with ballistic missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles. In particular, the low-cost Shahed 136 kamikaze UAVs were said to have come to the forefront.
In Iran’s retaliatory strikes, it was claimed that in addition to Israeli and US military bases, certain targets in Gulf countries were also hit. Missile attacks were reported to have continued until late Tuesday.
Risk of Regional War and Strait of Hormuz Concern
There is a risk that the conflict could turn into a large-scale war across West Asia. In particular, the possibility of Iran closing the Strait of Hormuz, which is of critical importance to global energy supply, is being assessed as an alarming scenario for global markets.
