A major panic ensued on Wednesday when a U.S. Navy fighter jet crashed into San Diego Bay, California. Officials confirmed that both Navy pilots survived the crash.

According to a statement from the U.S. Navy, the pilots ejected just before the aircraft hit the water at around 10:17 a.m. local time. The downed jet was identified as an EA-18G Growler, a variant of the F/A-18F Super Hornet.

A Miraculous Rescue!

The pilots were rescued just one minute after landing in the water by a nearby fishing boat. The crew of the vessel, operated by a local charter company named Premier, quickly rushed to the scene upon noticing the pilots eject. Frank Ursitti, the company’s general manager, stated, “We are relieved and grateful that one of our boats happened to be in the right place at the right time.”

The rescued pilots were then transferred to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations boat, and their condition was reported as stable. They were later transported to a nearby hospital for further evaluation.

Authorities reported that the crash occurred near Naval Base Coronado, leaving a widespread debris field.

An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
