Turkish Airlines’ Target: 10 Million Tourists and 3 Billion Dollars. In 2 years it will be free on all our airplanes

In an interview with CNN International, Ahmet Bolat, Chairman of the Board of Turkish Airlines (THY), discussed the company’s primary goals and future projects. Bolat announced that within two years, all passengers would have access to free and fast internet on planes.

Each Passenger Brings $3,000

Emphasizing their focus on sustainability and profitability, Bolat stated, “Our main focus right now is the sustainability of Turkish Airlines. Because to maintain growth, profitability is essential. We are after valuable passengers. By this, I mean passengers coming to Turkey. Therefore, we have identified 11 countries: the USA, Canada, Mexico, Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, and Australia. From these countries, we are attracting a total of 10 million tourists, and these passengers bring an average of $3,000 each to Turkey.”

Targeting Tourists Who Bring More Foreign Exchange

Speaking to Richard Quest from CNN International, Bolat highlighted that Istanbul Airport is one of the busiest airports in Europe, stating, “Our goal is to attract tourists who bring more foreign exchange. The seats on the plane need to be filled, but you must ensure that these passengers add value. We are connecting people. We can get every passenger arriving at Istanbul Airport to their destination in less than 2.5 hours on average. We tell people that they can find things in Istanbul—culture, history, and gastronomy—that they can’t find anywhere else in the world.”

Fast and Free Internet on Planes

Responding to a question about profitability rates, Bolat mentioned that they would soon offer passengers free and fast internet. “Last year was better, but now it’s healthier because there is more competition, and thus you can take better care of yourself. We are currently upgrading our business class seats, and within two years, every Turkish Airlines passenger will have free but fast internet. This is important. When there are challenges and competition, you try to find other ways to satisfy the customer,” he said.
