US Navy F-35C Fighter Jet Makes Emergency Landing in Brazil

Last Saturday afternoon marked a historic event: a US Navy Lockheed Martin F-35C Lightning II fighter jet made an emergency landing in Brazil due to low fuel.

Sources close to the situation reported that the jet landed urgently at São Pedro da Aldeia Naval Air Base in Rio de Janeiro. This incident is the first recorded occurrence of such a fighter jet on Brazilian soil.

The 5th generation fighter jet, part of the VFA-174 squadron (Argonauts), was participating in the US Southern Command’s Southern Seas 2024 exercise.

Reports also indicated sightings of F-18F Super Hornet fighter jets in Brazilian airspace, participating in a special military exercise off the Brazilian coast.

The USS George Washington serves as a platform showcasing advanced aircraft like the Boeing F/A-18F Super Hornet and the Lockheed Martin F-35C Lightning II. The presence of the F-35C is particularly significant, marking the first flight of a 5th generation stealth fighter in Brazilian airspace.
