The Ministry of National Defence announced that six F-16 fighter jets and air defence systems have been deployed to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) in order to enhance the island’s security. The ministry also stated that additional measures will be taken if necessary.
The Ministry of National Defence (MoND) made a statement on 9 March 2026 regarding the measures taken for the security of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
In the statement released by the ministry, it was reported that within the framework of recent developments in the region, six F-16 fighter jets and air defence systems have been deployed to the TRNC as of today in line with phased planning aimed at increasing the security of the TRNC.
The MoND also announced that following evaluations based on developments, additional measures will continue to be taken if deemed necessary. The statement emphasised that the deployment was carried out within the scope of regional security and defence measures.
Thus, Türkiye has implemented critical measures to ensure the security of the TRNC and to create deterrence against increasing risks in the region.
