Tehran’s Mehrabad (THR) and Imam Khomeini (IKA) airports have suspended all operations due to attacks and airspace restrictions. While military aircraft were destroyed at Mehrabad Airport, international flights were suspended at Imam Khomeini Airport for security reasons.
Tehran, Iran – Aviation infrastructure in Tehran has been severely affected due to the attacks and security restrictions. It was reported that 16 military aircraft were destroyed in the attacks carried out on Mehrabad Airport and large-scale fires broke out at the facility. It is also claimed that the destroyed aircraft included 747 tanker aircraft.
Mehrabad had critical importance as the hub of domestic flights. Following the attack, the airport was closed indefinitely. Similarly, Imam Khomeini Airport (IKA), where international flights are handled, was also closed to commercial traffic for security reasons.
Following the incident, flights in the region were halted, and both domestic and international flights have been affected due to airspace restrictions and security risks. Authorities announced that official statements regarding the reopening of Tehran’s airports will be made in the coming days.
