Eliot Alper, a 78-year-old pilot, suffered a heart attack while flying from Las Vegas to California, leaving his wife, Yvonne Kinane-Wells, to take control of the plane. The 69-year-old Kinane-Wells, who had no prior flying experience, was suddenly faced with the challenge of landing the aircraft herself.
The incident occurred on a small plane en route from Las Vegas to California. With her husband incapacitated, Kinane-Wells quickly took the controls and contacted air traffic control for assistance.
Air Traffic Control Steps In
The control tower provided step-by-step instructions, guiding Kinane-Wells on how to steer the plane to the nearest airport. Air traffic controllers offered her the necessary information to safely manage the plane.
After a tense few minutes, Kinane-Wells successfully performed an emergency landing at Meadows Field Airport in California. Despite overshooting the 3,350-meter runway slightly, the plane came to a safe stop.
