Travelers heading to Egypt should prepare for a new entry process beginning next month as the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism & Antiquities launches a pilot Digital Visa-on-Arrival System at Cairo International Airport.
Starting Aug. 1, 2026, travelers arriving at any of Cairo International Airport’s terminals will be able to obtain a digital visa using a QR code, replacing the traditional paper visa sticker with a faster, fully digital option.
A New Digital Entry Process
Travelers will be able to generate a Visa QR Code through an official online portal, a dedicated mobile app or self-service kiosks located in Cairo International Airport’s arrival halls. The QR code can be obtained before departure, during the flight or upon arrival, either by the traveler or through a travel advisor or agency.
At immigration, border officials will scan the QR code along with the traveler’s passport. The code can be presented digitally or in printed form and remains valid for 48 hours after issuance.
The digital visa will cost $36, including Egypt’s existing $30 visa fee plus a $6 digital processing fee.
During the pilot phase, travelers may continue using either the traditional paper visa-on-arrival or the new digital option. Once testing is complete, the paper visa will be phased out and the QR code system will become the standard method for obtaining a visa on arrival.
The Ministry said implementation at additional Egyptian airports will occur in phases, with rollout dates to be announced in advance.
