Tragic Loss on Turkish Airlines Seattle-Istanbul Flight: Captain Pilot Passes Away

In a heartbreaking incident, Captain Pilot İlçehin Pehlivan, serving on Turkish Airlines flight TK204 from Seattle to Istanbul, suddenly became ill mid-flight and despite all efforts to save him, passed away. The aviation community has been deeply saddened by this loss.

Captain Pilot’s Passing

59-year-old Captain Pehlivan became unwell during the flight, leading the co-pilot to take over control of the aircraft and make an emergency landing at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport. Despite the immediate medical intervention, it was announced that Pehlivan could not be revived. Turkish Airlines’ Press Officer Yahya Üstün released an official statement: “We share with great sorrow the news of the passing of our Captain Pilot İlçehin Pehlivan. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.”

No Health Issues in Prior Medical Checks

Captain Pehlivan had been with Turkish Airlines since 2007 and had passed his most recent medical examination on March 8, 2024, with no issues detected that would have prevented him from flying. These checks were conducted at the Aviation Medical Center, authorized by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, and cleared him for duty.

Emergency Landing in New York

After Captain Pehlivan fell ill, the co-pilot safely ensured the flight landed in New York as an emergency measure. Turkish Airlines has since arranged for the passengers to continue their journey back to Turkey and has implemented all necessary precautions. THY officials emphasized that all steps were taken to ensure the safety and comfort of the passengers, and the situation was managed smoothly.

As the AeroHaber.com family, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Captain Pehlivan’s family and loved ones.
