North Macedonia and the United Kingdom have officially enacted a new Air Services Agreement aimed at increasing commercial flights between the two countries and strengthening aviation cooperation. The agreement provides airlines with a broad legal framework for operating scheduled services, setting fare policies, and adjusting capacity according to market demand.
This new regulation replaces the previous EU-based provisions that became invalid after the United Kingdom’s departure from the European Union.
“A modern and strong aviation structure is being established between the two countries”
Aleksandar Nikoloski, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport of North Macedonia, stated that the agreement marks a new era between the two countries:
“The agreement, signed at the initiative of the United Kingdom, represents a new legal framework regulating relations concerning regular air transport between the two countries.”
Officials emphasize that the agreement will create significant opportunities for both the business community and the tourism sector.
The United Kingdom Expands Its Aviation Network in the Region
The United Kingdom has signed similar Air Services Agreements with Serbia and Montenegro in the Balkan region post-Brexit. Bosnia and Herzegovina is also expected to finalize an agreement soon. The new agreement is seen as part of London’s strategy to strengthen its connections in the region.
New Expectations for Tourism and Trade
Experts note that with the agreement coming into effect, flights on the Skopje–London route may increase, positively impacting:
