The Libyan government announced that Royal Jordanian Airlines and Qatar Airways will begin flights to Libya in May. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dibeybe, Minister of Transportation Muhammed al-Shuhubi, and officials from aviation-related organizations, discussions were held regarding flights to the country.
Minister al-Shuhubi stated during the meeting that Royal Jordanian Airlines and Qatar Airways will commence flights to Libya in May. Additionally, talks are ongoing for Saudi Arabian Airlines to also initiate flights to Libya.
Due to political instability and armed conflicts since 2011, many airlines had suspended flights to Libya. However, with recent cessation of hostilities, some airlines have resumed their services. Turkish Airlines conducted its first flight to the Libyan capital, Tripoli, on March 28 after a 10-year hiatus.
Minister al-Shuhubi, in a statement at Mitiga International Airport, expressed that the commencement of Turkish Airlines’ flights serves as an encouraging step for other international airlines as well.
