Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport has taken the necessary measures and completed its preparations with the start of the holiday season. Having served a record 37.1 million passengers in 2023, the airport served 16.2 million passengers in the first five months of 2024.
With a 13.2% increase in passenger volume, Sabiha Gökçen Airport ranks second in the mega airports category. By activating its second runway, the airport aims to contribute to Turkish tourism and provide a more comfortable travel experience for tourists.
Known as the “City Airport” due to its diverse urban transportation options and proximity to city centers, the airport offers access to 164 destinations in 52 countries, with 40 domestic and 124 international connections.
Kerem Maybek, Acting CEO of ISG, announced that improvement works at the airport have been completed with the start of the tourism season. To ease passenger circulation in the terminal, additional gates and X-Ray machines were installed, and extra personnel were assigned to operations, security, and cleaning teams. Measures were also taken to facilitate the passage of international passengers through passport control points.
Maybek stated that the parking capacity in front of the old terminal has been increased and opened to accommodate the holiday rush. Additionally, he announced the initiation of a new open parking area project under the “Triangle Open Parking Project.”
The airport is making pre-travel processes quick and easy for passengers with digital solutions. Through the Sabiha Gökçen Mobile Application, flight information can be monitored in real-time, and transactions can be completed without waiting in line using self-service kiosks and the Fast Passport Passage System.
Lastly, it was noted that Sabiha Gökçen International Airport is the 9th busiest airport in Europe, with nine new international routes opened this year. Pegasus Airlines, as well as other airlines, have added new routes.
