A fighter jet belonging to the Indian Air Force crashed on Wednesday morning in the Churu district of Rajasthan, western India. The accident occurred during a training flight, and it has been reported that two pilots lost their lives.
In an official statement released by the Indian Air Force, it was announced that the aircraft crashed during a routine training mission, and an investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the accident. While the Air Force refrained from disclosing the model of the aircraft involved, local sources claimed that the downed jet was a two-seater Jaguar fighter aircraft.
Following the crash, search and rescue teams were quickly dispatched to the scene, and images from the area showed the wreckage of the aircraft scattered over a wide area, with the jet having crashed into farmland.
In recent years, there has been a noticeable increase in the number of accidents involving fighter jets in India. So far this year alone, at least three Jaguar and one Mirage 2000 fighter jets have crashed during training flights.
Experts highlight that such accidents necessitate both technical and operational evaluations, while it is also known that India has lost a significant number of fighter jets during past cross-border conflicts with Pakistan.
Air Force officials stated that a comprehensive technical investigation into the incident is ongoing and that the public will be informed accordingly.
