A significant milestone has been reached in the process of procuring second-hand Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets from Qatar. Within the scope of this strategic step aimed at strengthening Türkiye’s air force, the delivery schedule has now been clarified.
According to a report by Burhan Yolal of GDH, the first batch of 24 second-hand Eurofighter Typhoon fighter aircraft that Türkiye will purchase from the inventory of the Qatar Air Force is planned to be delivered to the Turkish Air Force by the end of February.
Following talks held between sources from the Ministry of National Defence and technical delegations, the countdown has begun for the inclusion of the aircraft into the Turkish Air Force inventory. It is stated that the delivery process is progressing in line with the planned schedule.
Turkish Pilots Begin Training Flights in Qatar
It has been learned that the procurement process is not limited solely to the purchase of the aircraft, and that Turkish pilots have also begun training flights as part of their adaptation to the Eurofighter Typhoon systems. Through this training conducted in Qatar, it is aimed to ensure that personnel will be fully operationally prepared once the aircraft arrive in Türkiye.
A Critical Force Multiplier in the Interim Period
The Eurofighter Typhoons, which are expected to meet the “interim aircraft” requirement during the period until the procurement of new-generation F-16 Block 70s and the start of serial production of the indigenous and national fighter aircraft KAAN, are of strategic importance in terms of maintaining Türkiye’s regional air superiority.
The fact that the aircraft in the Qatari inventory have low flight hours and are in a modern configuration is considered a significant advantage that will provide the Turkish Air Force with an effective and deterrent air power in a short time.
Officials emphasise that the delivery and integration process is proceeding in line with the planned schedule.
