U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has identified a significant electrical fault in Boeing’s 777 jets, warning that this issue could cause the fuel tanks in the aircraft’s wings to ignite and potentially explode. Approximately 300 Boeing aircraft operated by United and American Airlines are reported to be affected by this potential defect.
According to the FAA’s announcement in March, Boeing and other external experts were called upon to address this issue by May 9. However, no response has been received to date. Boeing has stated that this is not an urgent flight safety issue and acknowledged the FAA’s notification as part of the standard regulatory process.
This situation coincides with a challenging year for Boeing, as the company has been under scrutiny for various malfunctions and issues highlighted in February, March, and April. Boeing’s reputation has also been tarnished by allegations that some of its aircraft were flown with faulty or missing parts.
