The Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, announced that the Çukurova Airport, with a capacity of 9 million passengers, will be inaugurated on Saturday, August 10, with the participation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Uraloğlu stated that the runway, which is 3,500 meters long and 60 meters wide, is ready and capable of accommodating the largest wide-body aircraft.
“The World’s Most Fertile Land Opens to the World”
In a statement at Çukurova Airport, Minister Uraloğlu said, “The region with the world’s most fertile land is opening up to the world.” He emphasized that Turkey’s advantageous position, located at the intersection of three continents and at the center of 67 countries, offers significant opportunities in the aviation sector.
Uraloğlu noted that after 2002, the aviation sector was opened to private enterprises, creating a competitive environment. The number of active airports in domestic flights increased from 26 to 57, with plans to raise this number to 61 by 2053.
He also mentioned that Istanbul Airport continues to be the busiest airport in Europe, with an average of 1,481 flights per day. Antalya Airport set a record for 2024 with 217,141 passengers and 1,186 flights.
Çukurova Airport: The Region’s New Infrastructure Investment
Uraloğlu highlighted that Çukurova Airport, which will serve the regions of Adana and Mersin, is a significant infrastructure project and regional investment. “We have constructed a main runway that is 3,500 meters long and 60 meters wide. This airport will greatly contribute to the region’s service sector,” he said.
In his statements, Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu provided important information about the steps Turkey has taken in the aviation sector and its future goals. He mentioned that in 2023, 214 million passengers were transported across 57 airports, and this number is expected to increase this year. He also noted that the number of countries with which air transport agreements have been signed has increased from 81 to 174.
