According to EUROCONTROL data, the rate of on-time departures and arrivals fell by up to 50% on days when controllers refrained from taking initiative. This data concretely illustrates the critical contributions of air traffic controllers.
Controllers Not Receiving Their Due
Despite being appreciated for their efforts and record-breaking performance in the sector for years, our air traffic controllers have not received the working conditions they deserve. The “working without initiative” action stems from the lack of recognition for the extra efforts controllers put in beyond their job descriptions.
Productivity Above the European Average
Even though our air traffic controllers operate with efficiency above the European average, their demands—which could be easily resolved and contribute to the national economy—are ignored with populist approaches like “workplace peace” and “everyone is a link in the same chain.” This systematic neglect results in the ongoing victimization of the controllers.
New Action Plan: June 20-30, 2024
To raise awareness of our legitimate demands and ensure steps are taken in the country’s best interests, our Union Executive Board has decided to implement a new “working without initiative” action from June 20 to June 30, 2024. This action will continue resolutely until our legitimate demands are met.
Last Year’s Action and Unfulfilled Promises
The issues regarding working conditions that were promised to be resolved before and after the elections following last year’s action have yet to be addressed. This is the fundamental cause of the current problems. We urgently call on all stakeholders in the sector to take the necessary steps to meet our legitimate demands.
