An Air New Zealand flight from Gisborne to Auckland was forced to return to Gisborne Airport shortly after takeoff due to an engine failure. The NZ5166 flight managed to land safely despite the technical issue.
Emergency Response
During the incident, Fire and Emergency New Zealand teams were dispatched to support airport emergency personnel. Two fire engines and two water tankers were deployed, completing their tasks shortly before noon.
Air New Zealand’s Statement
Air New Zealand officials confirmed that the engine was shut down following standard procedures and announced that an investigation into the cause of the failure is underway. The aircraft circled briefly before making a secure landing.
