A New Era of Security at Airports Begins! Fines for Pilots!

A new legislative proposal that will bring significant changes in civil aviation is set to be discussed in the General Assembly after the Kurban Bayram holiday.

Here are the anticipated new rules:

Security Procedures and Inspections

Security procedures and inspections at airports will be restructured according to the criteria in the Chicago Convention, an International Civil Aviation Agreement. If the legislative proposal is approved, the new rules will be as follows:

  • Mandatory Pat-Down Searches: All passengers and their belongings entering airports and aircraft will be inspected with technical devices and, if necessary, manually. If a passenger does not consent to a pat-down search of themselves and their belongings, they will not be allowed into the airport or onto the aircraft.
  • Private Security Officers: Aviation security measures will be carried out by private security officers under the supervision of the police. These officers will be authorized to search individuals, their belongings, baggage, cargo, and goods using technical devices and, if necessary, manually.
  • Baggage and Cargo Searches: During inspections, baggage, cargo, and other goods can be opened and searched without the presence of the passenger or owner if there is a security concern. Prohibited items found will be kept in custody.

Fines

  • Fines for Pilots: If a crime occurs on an aircraft and the pilot does not report it to the authorities, they will face fines ranging from 20,000 to 500,000 lira.
  • Unauthorized Drone Use: Individuals identified by security forces flying drones without flight permits or outside the areas designated by the Civil Aviation Authority or local administrators will be fined 60,000 lira.
