Ukraine was hoping to bolster its military efforts with the arrival of F-16 jets promised by its allies this summer, but so far, the country has yet to see these planes.
In an interview with the BBC, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed gratitude for the support provided to Ukraine, stating, “It’s been 18 months, and the planes have not reached us.” Zelensky emphasized that Ukrainians need new fighter jets to help overcome Russia’s air dominance and “unlock the skies.”
Previously, Zelensky had mentioned that Ukraine needs at least 128 F-16 fighter jets to create effective competition against Russia in the air. He expressed that they expect the allies to fulfill their promises promptly.
Believing that the arrival of the F-16s would significantly boost Ukraine’s military capacity, Zelensky stated that these jets would strengthen the country’s defense capabilities and enable a more effective fight against Russia’s air superiority.
