Salih Al-Rashid, President of the Royal Commission for Makkah City and Holy Sites (RCMC), announced that comprehensive studies for the construction of a world-class airport in Mecca have been completed. It was stated that the project has been planned in a way that will not negatively affect the economic feasibility of existing airports in neighboring cities.
A Strategic Step Within Vision 2030
In an interview with Harvard Business Review, Salih Al-Rashid stated that the project is one of the most important steps planned to be implemented in line with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 goals. The new airport is expected to strengthen the region’s transportation infrastructure and respond to increasing passenger demand.
Talks with the Private Sector Continue for Investment Model
Al-Rashid noted that the strategic, economic, and investment plans related to the project have been approved, and said that efforts with the private sector are ongoing to determine the most suitable financing and operating model. In this context, public-private partnership options are being evaluated.
Process Completed for Mecca Metro
Al-Rashid also announced that feasibility studies and the initial design phase for the Mecca Metro project have been completed. It was reported that the necessary procedures for the implementation of the project have been finalized and submitted to the relevant authorities for approval.
Infrastructure Investments Gaining Momentum
The statements reveal that investments in transportation and infrastructure projects in Mecca are accelerating, and both the airport and metro projects are expected to significantly increase the region’s transportation capacity.
