Ground service vehicle hits IndiGo aircraft in Kolkata

An unmanned ground vehicle struck a parked IndiGo A320neo aircraft at Kolkata Subhas Chandra Bose Airport. The aircraft was taken out of operation as a precaution and sent for maintenance.

At Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata, India, an aircraft belonging to IndiGo Airlines, which was parked, collided with a catering service vehicle. No injuries were reported in the incident, while limited damage occurred to the aircraft.

Incident occurred on the apron

The accident took place at parking position number 51 of the airport. According to sources, the catering vehicle moved forward uncontrollably during operation and came into contact with the engine section of the parked aircraft.

No injuries reported

Initial checks carried out immediately after the incident reported no injuries. Authorities stated that the incident was limited to material damage only.

Statement from IndiGo

In a statement made by IndiGo, it was said: “An unmanned third-party vehicle on the airside moved and came into contact with a parked IndiGo aircraft at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata. The relevant authorities have been informed.”

Aircraft grounded for inspection

The airline announced that the affected aircraft would undergo the necessary technical inspection and maintenance processes before returning to operations. It was also stated that the investigation into the incident would continue in coordination with the relevant authorities.

Alternative aircraft assigned for the flight

According to the information obtained, an alternative aircraft was assigned for flight 6E 6663, which was scheduled to operate from Kolkata to Guwahati. Thus, the planned flight operation continued without disruption.
