Vistara Ends Heathrow Flights! Air India Gains a Valuable Slot Opportunity

Vistara Airlines has decided to discontinue its route between Delhi (DEL) and London Heathrow (LHR). This decision opens up a rare and expensive slot at Heathrow, allowing Air India the chance to capitalize on it.

Vistara’s Final Flights

The India-based airline has been operating daily flights with its Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, and its last DEL-LHR flight is scheduled for November 10, 2024. As of November 11, 2024, reservations for this route will no longer be available. However, Air India will continue to operate flights on this route.

Air India’s Flight Schedule

Air India currently serves Heathrow with two daily flights and one thrice-weekly flight. The schedule is as follows:

  • AI 161: Departs DEL at 2:45 AM, arrives at LHR at 7:30 AM.
  • AI 162: Departs LHR at 9:45 AM, arrives at DEL at 10:50 PM.
  • AI 111: Departs DEL at 6:45 AM, arrives at LHR at 11:30 AM.
  • AI 112: Departs LHR at 1:15 PM, arrives at DEL at 2:05 AM.
  • AI 165: Departs DEL at 2:15 PM on Sundays, 3:15 PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays, arriving at LHR at 7:00 PM on Sundays, 8:00 PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Merger Process and Vistara’s Transition

Vistara’s operations will be integrated into Air India’s expanded network, with Vistara flights being rebranded under new Air India flight codes. Vistara’s crew will continue to serve on these routes, ensuring the same level of service and onboard experience is maintained.

Supported by the Tata-Singapore Airlines joint venture, Vistara passengers will transition to Air India’s Flying Returns program starting November 12.

This merger is seen as a step towards Air India becoming a stronger airline. While Vistara’s downsizing is disappointing, the overall strategy positions Air India for a better competitive standing in the global aviation market.
