Turkish F-16s Deployed to Romania for NATO Exercise
Two F-16s and one Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) aircraft departing from Konya 3rd Main Jet Base Command participated in NATO’s exercise in Romania. Germany, France, Greece, and other allies are also taking part in the exercise.
Turkish fighter jets taking off from Konya 3rd Main Jet Base Command set out to participate in NATO’s exercise in Romania. Under the coordination of NATO Allied Air Command, Turkey contributed with two F-16 fighter jets and one Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) aircraft. Additionally, a KC-135R tanker aircraft from Adana provided operational support.
The exercise aims to increase NATO’s deterrence capacity on the eastern flank and strengthen coordination among allies. Multinational participation, including Germany, France, Greece, and other NATO countries, carries strategic importance for regional security.
The exercise was conducted in parallel with NATO’s air policing mission at Romania’s Mihail Kogălniceanu Air Base. Air security in the region is currently maintained by four Eurofighter Typhoons from Italy and over 180 personnel.
Romania will also host large-scale exercises such as DACIA 25 and DACIAN SPRING 25 in the first half of 2025. Planned with around 15,000 troops and numerous NATO allies, these exercises will take place across various military firing ranges in the country, further reinforcing defense readiness on the eastern flank.
