The Turkish defense and aerospace industry achieved a record-breaking success in May 2024 by generating $876 million in export revenue. This figure marks the highest export revenue ever recorded in a single month in the sector’s history.
President of the Defense Industry Agency, Prof. Dr. Haluk Görgün, commented on the achievement, saying, “Our defense and aerospace exports reached $876 million in May. This is the highest export figure recorded in a single month in the history of our sector. Our exports in the first five months increased by 9% compared to the same period last year, reaching $2.215 billion.”
Görgün highlighted that with high-tech exports, they not only achieved sustainable growth but also increased the country’s value-added export ratio with figures exceeding $60 per kilogram. He congratulated all the companies and employees leading the export growth and wished continued success for the country’s economy.
In 2023, the defense and aerospace industry closed with an export figure of $5.5 billion. Drones (SİHA) and ammunition solutions were particularly leading the exports. To maintain an annual export level of $6 billion or above, Turkey needs to achieve an average monthly export of $500 million. The average for the first five months of 2024 stands at $433 million. The sector has taken a significant step towards its target with the May 2024 exports.
With this significant achievement, the Turkish defense and aerospace industry has once again demonstrated Turkey’s strength and capabilities on the international stage, contributing substantially to the national economy.
