Turkey’s National Aircraft KAAN’s Cybersecurity is Being Enhanced

As Turkey continues to add innovations to its defense industry production daily, it also places importance on protecting its products from cyberattacks. STM is continuing its work to improve the platform cybersecurity of the national aircraft KAAN. Significant investments are being made in creating the cybersecurity architecture and identifying risks.

Support for the KAAN Project

In addition to cybersecurity, STM is providing consultancy and engineering support for the KAAN project. The project includes ongoing work on health management systems, ground activities, operational analysis modeling and simulation, cockpit avionics subsystems, and integrated control panels.

Initial Delivery Date May Change

Dr. Mehmet Demiroğlu, General Manager of Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ), announced that the initial delivery date for KAAN might be updated. It was emphasized that KAAN has successfully completed its first flight and that Turkey is one of only five countries in the world capable of producing 5th-generation aircraft.

Cyber Threat Situation Report

STM’s Cyber Threat Situation Report highlights the cybersecurity risks in the defense industry. The report notes that cyberattacks are a significant part of modern warfare and that cyber threats are increasing. It states that cyberattacks on vehicles increased by 225% between 2018 and 2021.

Cybersecurity in Naval Platforms

The report draws attention to the potential vulnerability of naval platforms to cyberattacks. It notes that malware could target the automatic identification systems, electronic chart display systems, GPS, and radar systems of naval platforms, potentially leading to serious security breaches.
