Foreign Tourist Influx to Istanbul
According to the Istanbul Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism, 4,770,533 foreign tourists visited Istanbul in the first four months of 2023. This number increased by 10% in 2024, reaching 5,244,936.
15% Increase in Foreign Tourists in April
In April 2024, Istanbul hosted 1,478,218 foreign tourists, marking a 15% increase compared to the same period last year.
Preference for Air Travel
Of the 1,478,218 tourists who came to Istanbul in April, 1,459,083 chose to travel by air. The number of tourists arriving by air increased by 16% compared to the previous year, while those arriving by sea decreased by 29%.
Airport Preferences
In April, Istanbul Airport received 1,063,035 tourists, Sabiha Gökçen Airport received 394,772, and Atatürk Airport hosted 1,276 tourist arrivals.
Entries via Ports
Among the 19,135 tourists arriving by sea, the busiest port was Karaköy Port, which saw 11,702 entries.
Russians at the Top
Among the foreign tourists who arrived in Istanbul in April, Russians ranked first with 167,824 visitors. Russia was followed by Germany and Iran.
Tourists from All Over the World
In April, tourists from 199 different countries visited Istanbul, with the least number of visitors coming from countries like North Korea and Nauru.
