Turkish Airlines (THY) has announced that on September 22, it will serve “the world’s first bread” made from wheat produced in Şanlıurfa’s Göbeklitepe region to passengers on its flight to New York, USA. THY Chairman of the Board and Executive Committee, Professor Dr. Ahmet Bolat, stated that this offering is part of their efforts to introduce Anatolia’s cultural heritage and gastronomic richness to the world.
Historical Significance of Göbeklitepe
In a social media statement, Bolat emphasized that Göbeklitepe is the cradle of the agricultural revolution and that the domesticated wheat in this region played a significant role in daily life and societal rituals. “This revolution led to the development of settlement areas, agricultural production techniques, and methods of grinding and baking,” Bolat said, underscoring the importance of bread.
Promoting Cultural Heritage
Professor Bolat noted that this offering is not just a culinary experience but also an initiative to promote Turkey’s deep-rooted history and cultural values globally. “Wheat and bread hold profound meaning across all faiths and religions. We are delighted to share this historic bread with our passengers on the September 22 New York flight,” he added.
