The Bakırköy 2nd Civil Court of First Instance for Commercial Affairs ruled on 5 November 2025 that Onur Air Taşımacılık A.Ş., which had not been operating for a long time, has gone bankrupt. With the decision now finalised, the liquidation process of the airline has officially begun.
The Decision After Years: The Legal Journey of Onur Air Comes to an End
Onur Air, which had suspended its operations during the pandemic and subsequently had its flight licence revoked, has been officially declared bankrupt by court order.
The Bakırköy 2nd Civil Court of First Instance for Commercial Affairs ruled for the appointment of a bankruptcy administration to determine the company’s assets and settle its debts.
The Liquidation Process Has Begun
In its decision, the court ordered a detailed examination of all assets belonging to Onur Air. Accordingly:
Bankruptcy annotations will be added to the title deed records of the company’s immovable properties.
All existing mortgages and liens will be investigated.
The sale prices of immovable properties transferred within the last five years will be examined, and this information will be reported to the bankruptcy administration.
Flights Had Been Suspended After the Pandemic
During the COVID-19 pandemic that began in 2020, Onur Air suspended its flights and halted operations.
Following the company’s cessation of activities, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (SHGM) revoked its flight licence.
With the court’s decision, Onur Air—long inactive in practice—has now legally ceased to exist.
The Bankruptcy Administration Will Oversee the Process
Following the bankruptcy ruling, the bankruptcy administration will oversee the repayment of Onur Air’s debts, the identification of creditors, and the liquidation of remaining assets.
During this process, the company’s past debts, assets, and commercial relationships will be examined in detail.
