After taking off from Manchester to travel to Dalaman district of Turkey, an aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing in Belgrade, Serbia, due to a passenger altercation.
The plane, operated by SunExpress Airlines, departed from Manchester Airport on April 9, 2024, with the intended destination of Dalaman in Muğla. However, due to an altercation among passengers during the flight, the route was altered, and the aircraft made a mandatory landing in Belgrade.
According to allegations shared on social media, the vulgar behavior of a male passenger towards another passenger during the flight ignited the argument, which escalated into an incident involving other passengers.
Following the mandatory landing in Belgrade, the passengers involved in the altercation were detained by the Serbian police.
SunExpress Airlines confirmed that the flight’s route was altered due to a passenger altercation and added the following statement:
“Our XQ505 flight, scheduled to fly from Manchester to Dalaman on April 9th, had to divert to Belgrade due to a passenger dispute. Problematic passengers were disembarked by local police upon arrival, and the aircraft continued its journey to Dalaman after the passengers’ disembarkation. The safety and security of our passengers and crew are of the utmost priority for SunExpress.”
