The strike by air traffic controllers in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) has been postponed for 60 days by a decision of the Council of Ministers.
Strike Postponement Decision Published in Official Gazette
The decision of the Council of Ministers to postpone the strike, which was announced by the Air Traffic Controllers Union for air traffic controllers at Ercan Airport and was set to begin today and last for 24 hours, was published in the Official Gazette.
Reason for the Decision
The decision includes the following statements:
“The Council of Ministers, based on the authority granted by Article 16, Paragraph 3 of Law 42/1996 on Collective Bargaining, Strike, and Referendum, has decided to postpone the 24-hour strike announced by the Air Traffic Controllers Union and all other unions in the Air Traffic Control Branch or any unit of Ercan Airport, scheduled to begin on May 27, 2024, for a period of 60 days starting from May 27, 2024, due to its disruptive nature affecting national security, public safety, and essential services in civil aviation and airport operations.”
