A Sprintair ATR-72-212A cargo aircraft, registered SP-SPV, aligned with the left edge of runway 06 at Cologne while operating flight P8-6262 from Cologne to Basel/Mulhouse, Switzerland, and began its takeoff roll. Approximately 65 minutes after takeoff, the aircraft landed in Basel without further incident.
Poland’s PKBWL reported: “Due to a directional loss during takeoff, the aircraft’s left main and nose landing gear wheels damaged the runway lighting fixtures. The damage to the landing gear, aircraft fuselage, and runway edge lights was classified by PKBWL as a serious incident.”
Germany’s BFU has initiated an investigation into the incident.
The aircraft’s ADS-B data shows that it aligned with the left edge of the runway rather than the centerline before starting its takeoff roll.
The aircraft has remained on the ground in Basel for the past three days.
