President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has once again called on the West to permit attacks deep into Russian Federation territory. Zelenskiy stated that all airports from which Russia has launched attacks on Ukraine must be destroyed.
In his speech at the opening of the European Political Community summit, Zelenskiy said, “I call on all of you, all leaders who can contribute the necessary courage. These steps must be taken. And I specifically appeal to the US and the UK. France, Germany, Poland, and other friends; your courage can be decisive for peace.”
Emphasizing the need to destroy all military airfields from which Russian planes take off to bomb Ukrainian cities, children, and missile launch sites, Zelenskiy said, “This will not only destroy some targets but also reduce Russia’s ability to continue this war. Missiles and drones are not ‘carriers of state sovereignty,’ so there needs to be a collective will to strike them. Just as with Iran’s missiles and drones.”
Zelenskiy cited the effectiveness of attacks on the Russian Federation with an example from the Kharkiv region, saying, “We did not allow Russia to advance in the Kharkiv region. Full stop. Putin sacrificed tens of thousands of his citizens but achieved nothing. This was possible thanks to the bravery of our soldiers and our nation’s courage. Did the partners who lifted the restrictions on the use of weapons near the border lead to an escalation of tensions, or did they, on the contrary, prevent Putin’s attempts to expand the war?”
