An EgyptAir Airbus A320neo passenger aircraft declared an emergency and returned to Istanbul Airport after heavy smoke formed inside the cabin during the Istanbul–Cairo flight. No injuries were reported among passengers or crew.
CAPTAIN DECLARED EMERGENCY
Immediately after the issue was detected, the captain declared an emergency and requested a return to Istanbul Airport (IST). With clearance from air traffic control, the aircraft landed safely on runway 17L.
During the landing, rescue and firefighting teams were positioned around the runway. After touchdown, emergency response vehicles followed the aircraft in accordance with safety protocols.
NO INJURIES REPORTED
Despite the heavy smoke in the cabin, it was reported that no injuries or health problems occurred among passengers or crew.
The aircraft, which landed safely at Istanbul Airport, was later taken for inspection by EgyptAir technical teams. However, authorities have not yet provided a detailed statement regarding the source of the malfunction.
