Joshua Dean, a former employee of Spirit AeroSystems, a supplier to the aircraft company Boeing, who made statements regarding the safety of aircraft, has passed away. It was reported that another former employee of the company, who expressed concerns about the safety of certain models produced by the US-based aircraft company Boeing, has died as a result of an infection.
According to reports, it was conveyed in a statement by his family that Joshua Dean, a former quality inspector at Boeing supplier Spirit AeroSystems, died this week due to an infection known as antibiotic-resistant MRSA. His death was described as “unexpected” in the statement.
The passing of the second person who spoke publicly about Boeing’s safety concerns in the past two months has drawn attention.
The former Boeing employee, 44-year-old Dean, had previously disclosed that there were dangerous flaws in components of Boeing’s model 737 MAX aircraft, which have been associated with a series of disasters in recent years. Dean alleged that he was fired for speaking out after being laid off in 2023 and had also filed complaints against the company with federal authorities.
Another individual who spoke out about the safety of Boeing aircraft, 62-year-old John Barnett, was found dead in his car “with a gunshot wound to his head” near the hotel he was staying at in South Carolina on March 9th. Barnett claimed that he had reported issues with some production defects in aircraft he learned about while working at Boeing’s North Charleston factory in 2010, but alleged that instead of addressing them, the company retaliated against him.
In January, following an incident where the door panel of an Alaska Airlines jet flew off mid-flight, Barnett expressed concerns about Boeing’s rapid return of 737 Max 9 jets to flights. Barnett had filed a lawsuit against Boeing, alleging harassment by the company, but tragically, his lifeless body was found in the parking lot of the hotel where he was staying on the second day he was supposed to testify in court.
Both Barnett and Dean were represented by the same law firm in their cases against Boeing.
