Ryanair Launches 5 New Routes from Newcastle

Ryanair is launching new winter routes from Newcastle to Brussels, Budapest, Gdańsk, Wrocław, and Malta, aiming for 1 million passengers annually.

Ryanair Announces New Winter Routes from Newcastle: Brussels, Budapest, Malta, and More

Irish ultra-low-cost airline Ryanair has announced five new flight routes this winter from the UK’s regional Newcastle Airport. The new destinations include Brussels, Budapest, Gdańsk, Wrocław, and Malta.

In addition, the airline is increasing the frequency of flights to Alicante, Dublin, and Krakow. The third aircraft added to Newcastle Airport this winter will provide approximately 120,000 extra seats annually and will form a key part of the £300 million investment in the airport. To celebrate, Ryanair has launched a two-day special seat sale starting from £29.99.

Statements from Officials:

Ryanair CCO Jason McGuinness said, “This winter, Ryanair will operate a record schedule at Newcastle, carrying over 1 million passengers annually.” Newcastle Airport COO Richard Knight added, “Brussels will provide a brand-new connection from our airport, offering the Belgian capital to both holiday and business travellers. The additional winter flights to Budapest, Gdańsk, Malta, and Wrocław will give passengers more options to explore popular destinations.”

Competition and Local Impact:

Ryanair is not the only airline announcing new budget routes this summer. Wizz Air has launched five new flights from London to Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia, Bilbao, and Seville, with one-way fares starting from just £17.99.

However, this rapid growth has raised some concerns. Jaroslaw Grabczak, Head of Commercial Products at the online travel agency Thomas Cook and eSky Group, said, “Air travel is growing rapidly due to low-cost carriers. This could put pressure on housing, infrastructure, and community structures in saturated destinations.”

Other Developments:

TUI announced in May that it will expand its 2026 summer programme from Cardiff Airport, adding flights to three new destinations: Hurghada (Egypt), Faro (Portugal), and Fuerteventura (Canary Islands).
