The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed the presence of parts from Russian armed drones (UAVs) on Romanian territory following Russia’s airstrike on Ukraine during the night of July 24 to July 25.
Romanian Foreign Minister Luminita Odobescu condemned Russia’s attacks on Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure and confirmed the discovery of Russian UAV debris on Romanian soil in a statement on social media. Odobescu stated, “Russia has once again carried out heinous attacks on Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure. Debris was found on Romanian territory. We have informed our allies about this and are coordinating with them. Romania strongly condemns these irresponsible actions.”
Ukraine: 3 UAVs Crossed into Romania
On July 25, 2024, Ukrainian Air Force Commander Mykola Oleshchuk reported that Russia launched an airstrike with 38 UAVs overnight, with Ukrainian forces shooting down 25 of them. Oleshchuk noted that 3 UAVs crossed into Romanian territory, saying, “They disappeared after crossing the Romania-Ukraine border,” highlighting the serious security risk posed by this incident.
UAV Parts Found
According to the Romanian news agency Digi24, Romanian soldiers sent to investigate in Tulcea County found metal pieces near the village of Plauru that could belong to Russian UAVs. The discovered parts are believed to be debris from Russian UAVs, and investigations at the site are ongoing.
Romania has informed its allied countries about the found UAV parts and is coordinating with them. This development underscores the need for a joint security strategy among NATO member countries. Romania’s swift and effective response to this situation highlights the importance of regional security concerns.
