HEAŞ (Airport Operations and Aviation Industries Inc.), the operator of Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport, has announced that 5% of flights will be canceled tomorrow due to expected adverse weather conditions.
In a statement on social media, HEAŞ noted that per the decision of the Meteorological Emergency Committee (MADKOM), 5% of flights scheduled until 3:00 PM on July 26, 2024, will be canceled. The HEAŞ statement read:
“Due to expected adverse meteorological conditions at Sabiha Gökçen Airport on 26.07.2024, a decision has been made in the MADKOM meeting. According to the decision made by MADKOM, 5% of flights scheduled until 3:00 PM will be canceled. You can check the status of your flight on the airline’s website and call center.”
The Importance of MADKOM and Reasons Behind the Decision
MADKOM is a committee established to make quick and effective decisions in emergencies based on weather forecasts. When adverse weather conditions threaten flight safety, the committee convenes swiftly to implement measures such as flight cancellations or delays. The expected strong winds and heavy rainfall at Sabiha Gökçen Airport tomorrow prompted this decision.
What Should Passengers Do?
Passengers with flights today should check the airline’s websites and call centers to determine if their flights have been canceled. It is strongly recommended to use the official communication channels of the airport and airlines to get the latest information on weather conditions and flight cancellations.
