Rolls-Royce’s £1 Billion Investment Doubles Performance of Trent Engines
Rolls-Royce’s £1 billion modernisation investment in the Trent engine family has begun delivering visible results for airlines. The comprehensive transformation programme has doubled the time on wing for the Trent 1000, Trent 7000 and Trent XWB engines, taking operational reliability to a new level.
Significant Increase in Time on Wing
Within the scope of the modernisation programme, the average time on wing of the engines has risen from 40% to 80%. Airlines operating in challenging climates benefit the most from this development. For example, the time on wing of the Trent 7000 engine has reportedly tripled.
The new generation high-pressure turbine blades, certified in June 2025, have also been integrated into the Trent 1000 fleet.
Second-Phase Testing Continues
Second-phase improvement tests for the Trent 1000 and Trent 7000 are still ongoing. With the new upgrades scheduled to be rolled out in early 2026, the engines are expected to deliver even greater efficiency and provide airlines with higher predictability in fleet planning.
Global Success of the Trent XWB
Rolls-Royce’s flagship Trent XWB engine continues to prove its success in global aviation. Nine of the world’s ten most profitable airlines use the Trent XWB-84.
The Trent XWB-84 EP (Enhanced Performance) version, which entered service in May 2025, stands out with 1% higher fuel efficiency, extended life, and reduced environmental impact.
Global Network Strengthened by Turkish Technic
The operational strength of Rolls-Royce engines is supported by an extensive global maintenance and repair network. This network expanded further in May 2025 with the signing of an agreement with Turkish Technic.
The state-of-the-art independent maintenance centre to be established at Istanbul Airport will both increase Rolls-Royce’s global maintenance capacity and strengthen Turkish Technic’s leadership in the region. This will meet the growing demand for new-generation large passenger aircraft engines.
