According to reports in the Israeli media, the US Navy announced that the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman (CVN-75) incurred around 100 million dollars in damage during its eight-month deployment. Based on a recent US Navy report cited by the Jerusalem Post, the strategically important platform suffered significant financial losses during its latest mission.
A Critical Element of the US Navy
Commissioned in 1998 and part of the Nimitz-class aircraft carriers, the Harry S. Truman is regarded as one of the most important assets of the US global power projection capability. The carrier, used in long-range naval and air operations, also plays a critical role in Washington’s political and military power posture.
The platform stands out with its nuclear propulsion system, which enables long-term operations without the need for frequent refuelling.
Damaged During Yemen Operations
It was reported that the Harry S. Truman, which played an active role in military operations against Yemen throughout 2024, sustained damage multiple times in the Red Sea due to missiles launched by the Yemeni Armed Forces during its transit. According to the report, these attacks resulted in the carrier returning with an overall damage burden of around 100 million dollars.
