At the EDEX 2025 defence industry exhibition held in Egypt, Turkey’s national combat aircraft KAAN became one of the most notable platforms of the event. Drawing strong attention from high-level military delegations of regional countries, KAAN has emerged as a key contender in the modernisation plans of Middle Eastern and African armed forces.
Turkey’s defence industry giant TUSAŞ demonstrated its strong intent to become an influential player in the transformation of regional air power at EDEX 2025. Company officials highlighted the renewed cooperation process with aviation institutions in Egypt, progress in technology transfer discussions, and an international contract volume exceeding 3 billion dollars over the past five years.
TUSAŞ’s Export Achievements Stood Out
Evaluations of the exhibition were widely covered by the foreign press. According to reports, TUSAŞ’s export portfolio includes:
- ANKA UAVs: Delivered to or ordered by numerous countries.
- AKSUNGUR: Actively used by two foreign customers.
- T129 ATAK: Exported to three countries.
- HÜRKUŞ: Entered the inventories of two countries.
However, among all these products, the most attention-grabbing platform was Turkey’s indigenous fifth-generation fighter aircraft, KAAN.
KAAN’s Technical Details Took Centre Stage at the Exhibition
KAAN’s twin-engine design features:
- 34,750 kg maximum take-off weight
- Two engines producing 13,150 kgf each, enabling Mach 1.8 at 40,000 feet
- A service ceiling of 55,000 feet
The aircraft, developed with low observability in mind, includes internal weapon bays, +9 G manoeuvrability, and an advanced avionics suite integrating radar, electro-optical and electronic support sensors.
High Demand for KAAN: New Markets Ahead
The report recalled that Indonesia recently signed a historic contract worth approximately 10 billion dollars for the procurement of 48 KAAN aircraft. This development has increased KAAN’s international credibility and made the jet a serious alternative for Middle Eastern and African countries.
It was noted that high-ranking military officials in the region are closely following KAAN, as Turkey stands poised to capture a significant share of the market dominated by global fighter jet producers such as the US, Russia, and China.
ANKA III Also in the Spotlight
ANKA III, displayed alongside KAAN, also made a major impact at the exhibition. Featuring AI-supported mission sharing and multi-role weapon options, ANKA III is designed to conduct coordinated operations with KAAN or previous-generation fighter jets. With its jet-powered design, ANKA III is particularly suited for attack, reconnaissance, and suppression of enemy air defence missions.
