Two people lost their lives in a helicopter crash on Saturday in southeastern Poland, near the village of Malawa close to the city of Rzeszow. Marcin Betleja, spokesperson for the regional fire department, stated that the helicopter involved was a Robinson R44 model and that it caught fire following the incident.
Betleja said that 11 professional and volunteer firefighters quickly reached the scene and extinguished the burning helicopter, adding that they conducted a wide-area search to determine whether there were any additional victims. While the area was secured, teams continued their examinations around the wreckage.
Cause of the Crash Under Investigation
Polish police and the Provincial Aircraft Accident Investigation Commission have launched an official investigation into the cause of the incident. It was reported that technical analyses are ongoing and that the helicopter’s flight conditions and route are being examined in detail.
First Statement from the Ministry
Poland’s Minister of Infrastructure, Dariusz Klimczak, announced that emergency teams are still working intensively at the scene. In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, the minister stated that a special team had been dispatched to the area immediately to determine the cause and circumstances of the crash.
