Pegasus Airlines CEO Güliz Öztürk made significant statements about the future of travel habits, expansion plans, and sustainability goals during her speech at the 34th Annual Congress and General Assembly of the Airports Council International Europe (ACI Europe).

The Importance of Affordable Travel and Sustainability: Öztürk emphasized that while travel habits are changing, affordable travel will always remain popular. She noted that Pegasus aims to continue adding value for its passengers and to offer more sustainable services. In this regard, eco-friendly practices and sustainability strategies are prioritized by the company.
Expansion Plans and Strategic Goals: Over the next five years, Pegasus plans to further expand its extensive flight network, which covers Europe, the MENA (Middle East and North Africa), the Caucasus, and Turkey. Öztürk stated that this expansion strategy is aimed at strengthening their positions in key regions stretching from north to east and from south to west. Pegasus aims to increase its international presence by serving various destinations in these regions.
Operational Advantages of the Second Runway at Sabiha Gökçen Airport: Öztürk highlighted that the addition of the second runway at Sabiha Gökçen International Airport at the end of 2023 is a major advantage for Pegasus, providing a significant opportunity to grow operations. The new runway will allow them to conduct more flights and offer better service to their passengers.
Direct Flights from Other Airports in Turkey: Öztürk mentioned that Pegasus is not limited to Istanbul-based operations but has also launched many direct international routes from other major airports in Turkey, such as Antalya, Izmir, and Ankara. This expansion will strengthen Pegasus’ operations across Turkey and reach more passengers.
Extensive Flight Network: Öztürk stated that Pegasus flies to a total of 148 destinations, most of which are international. Pegasus operates flights to 53 different countries, including Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries. Additionally, she noted that 30% of their international traffic consists of connecting traffic, leveraging Istanbul’s strategic position between continents.
New Aircraft Acquisitions and Growth Targets: Öztürk emphasized that Pegasus was one of the top-performing airlines globally in operational profitability in 2022 and 2023, post-COVID-19. They plan to add 16 new aircraft to their fleet soon and continue to grow using hubs, primarily Sabiha Gökçen, as well as other centers in Turkey.
