Airport Traffic in Greece on the Rise: Passenger Numbers Up 4.7% in January–July Period
Passenger traffic at Greece’s 39 commercial airports increased by 4.7% in the January–July period of 2025 compared with the same period last year. According to official statistics, the total number of passengers reached 44.7 million, underlining the continued dynamism of the tourism sector.
Passenger Numbers Reach 44.7 Million
According to data from the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority, the total number of passengers (domestic and international arrivals and departures) in the first seven months of 2025 was 44,729,111. This figure represents a 4.7% rise compared with the 42,713,766 passengers recorded in the same period of 2024.
Aircraft movements also showed an increase. A total of 342,828 flights took place in January–July 2025, compared with 330,932 flights in 2024, marking a 3.6% rise.
24 Airports Record Traffic Growth
Traffic growth was observed at 24 airports managed by the Civil Aviation Authority. These included Heraklion, Kalamata, Alexandroupolis, Limnos, Astypalaia, Ioannina, Chios, Kozani, Kastoria, Karpathos, Kythira, Milos, Skyros, Nea Anchialos, Paros, Syros, Araxos, Naxos, Kalymnos, Ikaria, Kastelorizo, Kasos, Leros, and Sitia.
Largest Percentage Increase at Syros Airport
The biggest rises in passenger traffic were recorded at smaller island airports:

Syros Airport: +125.5% (3,781 passengers – 2025 / 1,677 passengers – 2024)

Busiest Airport: Heraklion
Heraklion Airport on Crete, the heart of Greek tourism, served 1,693,791 passengers in July 2025. This represents a 4.7% increase compared with the same month of the previous year, making Heraklion the busiest airport in Greece.
