Passenger Numbers at Ercan Airport Increased by 21.14%, Flights by 14.85%

Passenger and flight numbers at Ercan Airport, Cyprus’s largest airport built on an area of 7.8 million square meters, continue to grow.

Equipped with advanced technology and eco-friendly features, and boasting a modern architectural design, the extension of Ercan Airport’s new runway to 3,000 meters, allowing large-bodied aircraft to land, has been a major factor in the increase in passenger and flight numbers.

According to a statement from T&T Airport Operations, passenger numbers increased by 21.14% and flight numbers by 14.85% in the 11-month period between January-November 2023 and January-November 2024.

Passenger and Flight Numbers Rise in 2024 Compared to 2023

In the first 11 months of 2023, the former Ercan Airport served 3,637,741 passengers. This figure rose to 4,406,672 passengers during the same period in 2024 following the opening of the new Ercan Airport.

Regarding flights, 24,319 aircraft used Ercan Airport in the first 11 months of 2023, compared to 27,931 in the same period in 2024.

Monthly Increases in Passenger Numbers

  • In January 2023, the former Ercan Airport served 251,466 arriving and departing passengers. In January 2024, the new Ercan Airport served 334,510 passengers, a 33.2% increase.
  • February 2023 saw 226,108 passengers, while February 2024 witnessed a 56.99% rise, reaching 354,960 passengers.
  • In March, the former Ercan handled 256,313 passengers, while the new Ercan saw a 31.10% increase, serving 336,020 passengers in 2024.
  • In April, passenger numbers rose from 281,118 in 2023 to 360,026 in 2024, reflecting a 28.7% increase.
  • May 2023 recorded 334,879 passengers, while May 2024 saw a 16.14% rise to 388,915 passengers.
  • In June, passenger numbers increased by 14.92% compared to the same month in 2023, while flight numbers grew by 6.23%.

Other notable monthly increases include:

  • July 2023: 367,393 passengers; July 2024: 426,718 passengers.
  • August 2023: 385,223 passengers; August 2024: 439,950 passengers.
  • September 2023: 402,023 passengers; September 2024: 425,484 passengers.
  • October 2023: 408,051 passengers; October 2024: 462,639 passengers.
  • November 2023: 370,570 passengers; November 2024: 469,934 passengers.

27,931 Flights in 11 Months

With the new 3,000-meter runway and the introduction of jet bridges, the new Ercan Airport has begun serving large-bodied aircraft, contributing to the rise in flight numbers.

Between January and November 2023, the former Ercan Airport handled 24,319 flights. This figure rose by 14.85% to 27,931 flights during the same period in 2024.

  • January 2023: 1,848 flights; January 2024: 2,301 flights.
  • February 2023: 1,683 flights; February 2024: 2,220 flights.
  • March 2023: 1,794 flights; March 2024: 2,261 flights.

  • May 2023: 2,247 flights; May 2024: 2,423 flights.
  • June 2023: 2,377 flights; June 2024: 2,525 flights.
  • July 2023: 2,487 flights; July 2024: 2,644 flights.
  • August 2023: 2,425 flights; August 2024: 2,592 flights.
  • September 2024: 2,641 flights.
  • October 2024: 2,947 flights.
  • November 2024: 3,034 flights.
